Reflective Surfaces
I began taking some close up shots of a diamond, as it is a very reflective surface, and gave me the chance to use my extention tubes again. Although I found this task very difficult and am not overly impressed with the results. I would of liked to use a better quality macro lens, as it would have portrayed more beauty and depth in the diamond, a long with struggling to get the light to reflect in good places. It was very fiddly and I don't think I would use this image as a final for anything, but I learnt quite a bit from doing the task. I would like to edit this image a on the platinum of the ring, and centralise it.

This next image is of another reflective surface, of a Dior purfume bottle. I chose to photograph this bottle as when lights are reflected off it, a lot of colours emerge and it has a magical feel about it. I chose to put the bottle in fabric as I felt it had a more luxurios feel that if I'd just shot it on a flat surface. Although this image was taken with one continuous light, and if I were to re-shoot I would rather have done it at uni with more equipment to controll the lighting and remove the reflection of the light on the bottle.

Natural Forms, Focal lenghts and Depth of Field
The first image for my natural forms I took a few weeks ago but never got around to posting it. Its simply of an old tree that almost looks burnt out in the middle, and cork like. Although the tree is still alive with leaves (in summer). So here are a couple of pictures of it.

The next images are taken more recently, in the snow (: The first of the trees near my house as it was snowing. These images were taken with my 28-135mm zoom lens, and show focal lengths. I feel the image has a mysterious feel to it, and the snow is always beautiful. This image was taken at 135mm.

This image is at a focal length of around 80mm, of the same place.

This final image was taken at a focal length of 28mm, with the same zoom lens and of the same place.
This next set of images, taken at a different place, portray natural forms. of frozen over rivers and waterfalls. This first image is just of a shallow stream that has frozen over in the very cold weather. You could see the flowing water underneath the ice and it was around an inch thick, not that you can see this in the shot.
These next three images are of a frozen waterfall. I was quite amazed with the effects as I feel it doesn't look like England.

This final image of two icicles shows the use of depth of field. I feel this image is very naturally beautiful from the reflections on the ice reflecting back to the camera.

Macro Brocolli
I set out wanted to create a Forest style effect from some broccoli, although I don't feel that my intentions were met. Although, I do feel the results were quite effective. I also achieved the drop focus technique in this task, with only a very small band of the broccoli in focus. The next two images show this, although the second has more of the broccoli in focus.

The next image is simply of a birds eye view of the broccoli, as i felt close up, I don't really know what they're called, but the little leaves as such had a very interesting texture to them, and almost impersonated a cactus, I feel this image portrays this well.

Shallow Depth of Field
Enjoying the snow, I thought I would take advantage of it before its gone and thought I would demonstrate the use of a shallow depth of field using the bushes in my garden. I chose this image as a final as I felt the composition worked really well and also demonstated an understanding of the golden ratio.
Flourescent, Halogen and Incandescent Light Sources
Okay so for this I thought I would get some of my old wallpaper and create a studio, I made the wallpaper into an invisible curve shape and got my different light sources to light the set up.
The first I tried was halogen, from the lights we have in our kitchen, this image is quite flat and harsh. Although still with a yellowy tinge, which I didn't expect from this light source, I feel this may have been cast from the room in the next light, which is incandescent.
The next image I took was using an incandescent light source, which were in our dining room, the light is very warm. I put this bulb into a lamp to make it easier to direct and the results were very yellow, and very soft. I feel this image is a little underexposed.

The next image taken was using a fluorescent energy saving bulb from a lamp. The results should have has more of a cold feel, but the red on the firetrap gnome reflected on to the white of the wallpaper warming it up slightly. Although it is still colder than the other light sources.
